Report from the Webmaster on
the National Day of Prayer event.
Friday, May 03, 2002
This was our first gathering at our local Federal Building on the National Day of Prayer. We did not expect a big turn out because we had only decided to meet there one day earlier. Traditionally folks meet for a Prayer Breakfast on the National Day
of Prayer but we felt that it would be good to go to our local Federal Building and pray right there on the property. In our news release we encouraged others to do the same.
Because we did not have a permit which would allow us to actually stand on federal property, we used the sidewalk right in front of the building. It seems that our Federal Building has never had anyone ask to hold any demonstration or assembly on
their grounds, most folks in the greater Los Angeles area want to use
the Federal Building in West Los Angeles, so they did not have any protocol for issuing a permit to hold an assembly. Robert Colaco, the National Chairman of Citizens For A Better America ® is working with their General Services Administration to remedy
that for the future.
The point of the meeting was to pray and that is what we did. It was very inspirational to be at the Federal Building with the government center that surrounds it. Right before us was the physical infrastructure we were there to pray about, and some
of the very people we were praying for were walking right by us. We
began by praying for the President and his entire cabinet, both houses of Congress and all their staffs and families. We prayed they would have wisdom and sound judgment, that they would turn to God and rely on Him. Our prayer expanded to the whole
judicial system. With the court building and jail right in front of us behind the Federal Building it was not hard to remember to pray for our judges from the U.S. Supreme Court on down. We prayed for all the federal, state and city employees that make
personal sacrifices daily to serve as public servants for us all. We prayed for our nation to want justice and to want corruption to be driven out of our system. We asked God to give us good morality and values based candidates that we could work to
help elect. Most of all we asked God to turn our hearts back to Him.
We hope to meet again next year on the National Day of Prayer at 12:15 PM, right there at the Federal Building to pray for America. If you would like more information about our plans or you would like to do something similar in your area please
