A Christmas Letter From: Robert & Gail Colaco
December 20, 2001
Dear Friends:
This is the very first time that Gail and I are writing a Christmas Letter to our friends. At this point I do not know whether we will make this an annual event or not but if you have appreciated receiving it, please feel free to let us know.
The very first thing that I wanted to share with you is our prayer that you and yours have a Merry Christmas and a very blessed New Year in 2002.
During this Christmas Season, I would like to take a moment and share with you about why Jesus Christ is our Messiah and our Savior . There are many Messianic Prophecies that Jesus fulfilled. One of them was that the “Messiah” or “Savior” was to be
born in Bethlehem. The Old Testament Prophecy is in Micah 5:2 (Page 890 of The Christian Life Bible [TCLB] the New King James Version translation). It says:
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting." Micah 5:2
The New Testament fulfillment in the Bible is in Matthew 2:1- 6 (page 931, TCLB) where it says: “
(1) Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem,
(2) saying, ‘Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.’
(3) When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
(4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.
(5) So they said to him, ”In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:
(6) ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ (Verse 6 is a direct reference to Micah 5:2 above).
Jesus was of the tribe of Judah and was a descendent of the line of King David, He was born of a virgin in Bethlehem and His birth was announced by a messenger from God. These are just some of the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled regarding His birth.
We celebrate them each year on Christmas cards and in the carols we sing. I want to encourage you to consider that it is not possible to have fulfilled all the prophecies Jesus fulfilled, if you were not the promised one, the Messiah, the Savior. Then if
He is who He claimed to be what have you done with that information. It is often said if God really existed wouldn’t He just speak to us. Can we understand such a magnificent being as God and what better way to speak to us than to become one of us, “a
man”. Jesus became a man so that we might know God, what greater love is there. This Christmas if you have not already, than please respond to that love and believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, your Messiah, today.
Thank you for letting me take a few minutes of your time to share those thoughts. As many of you know it is very difficult for me to summarize all the special events in Gail and my life for a year in a couple of pages of paper. For those that are
members of our political organization which I serve as the volunteer National Chairman and Founder, they get the good stories about what is going on in our lives through a newsletter that I write called: “The Good News Report,”™. Tempted as I might be,
but I will try not to repeat things that I have written to our members in that report.
We are paying for this letter under the banner of Citizens For A Better America®. As most all of you know this is the political organization that I founded on October 15, 1992 and that I spend most of my time and energy working to elect morality and
values based candidates. The Federal Election Commission (FEC.GOV) hold us accountable for how we get our funds and how we spend them. Their interest may be different than what you think. Basically they are always concerned about if what we are doing is
to benefit or potentially benefit the political committee that I run. Since I do not want to violate their laws or their perception of the law I decided to have our organization pay for the printing and mailing of this Christmas Letter from Gail and
I.
As many of you know I started leading a Bible study on Sunday mornings called: The Christian Life Bible Study Fellowship™ in April 1999. We had many exciting moments in 2001 as a result of that Bible Study. We finished two studies all together this
year. The first was entitled God’s Will and was a fascinating lesson on understanding how to know God’s will. The second was about prayer and was entitled Lessons on Prayer. Our study was also able to host a brunch for missionaries to Mexico, James and
Claire Collins and their kids. This was a very special time for all of us and we were so excited that over 50 people came. This year also ended my time teaching this group because August 29, 2001 was the effective date of our resignation from teaching
The Christian Life Bible Study Fellowship™ as well as all of our activities, membership and attendance at Heart of the Canyons Church in Santa Clarita, California. We have been regularly attending Shepherd’s Community Church in Canoga Park, California
which is local to us.
Some of you know that Gail injured her foot in January of this year. She bruised the bone in her right foot. Praise the Lord she didn’t tear any ligaments For the first 3 month she used a wheelchair and then crutches to get around. It still aches but
she can now walk around on it as long as we don’t go hiking. She has also worked hard this year keeping our organizations various websites up to date. Check it out if you get the opportunity, go to www.CFABA.org.
This year had been a tough year as far as our bookkeeping business was concerned. Our accounting software had not been year 2000 complaint and so we had found a replacement but the conversion had taken us last year and most of this year to complete.
We decided to celebrate finishing the conversion of our Accounting and Tax Software to Y2K complaint software by taking a much needed vacation.
Gail and I had not had a vacation longer than three days since our honeymoon in 1984, so with the help of Gail’s parents who blessed us with a gift of lodging in Clear Lake, California we set off in our rental car for a relaxing 7 day vacation. Clear
Lake is about 550 miles from our home and is located north of the Napa Valley between highways 101 and 5. You can see it on the map because it is the largest natural lake in California.
On Monday, September 10, 2001 at about 4:00 PM we were finally ready to drive to our resort vacation in Northern California. We were late leaving because of work that had to be finished before we could leave so we decided to try driving through the
night. We planned to take turns driving and just sleep when we got to the resort. We just wanted to start our vacation and the room was ready whenever we got there.
I enjoy to drive so this was not a burden for me. We took Hwy. 101 straight up the coast when we got to San Francisco it was about 3 am. We didn’t know that the freeway dumped you onto city streets in downtown San Francisco or we might have gone
around the San Francisco Bay area instead we wove our way through to the Golden Gate Bridge. We prayed for those we knew who lived in San Francisco and the bay area and thanked the Lord that it was the middle of the night and not daytime because there
was no traffic. It was beautiful to see the lights as we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge.
After crossing the bridge Gail would fall asleep at times until the road would wake her and she would check on me to make sure I was not too tired. Both of us believe you should not drive when you are drowsy and I was willing to rest if I needed to
but I was doing fine and having a great time driving. In fact I was spending most of the time talking to God.
My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ seemed to be giving me a deep burden to pray about some very specific things. Our study Lessons on Prayer had taught us to listen to the Holy Spirit when we pray and let Him help us pray in God’s will. Some of what I
prayed was, “Lord, protect us. Protect our nation. Protect us from the evil that would want to consume us and harm us. Protect us from those that would either accidentally or by design that would want to take our lives. Protect us from those that are
foolish or have evil intent against us or our Country.” This was the early morning of September 11.
My prayers had intensified in the last hour of our journey to Clear Lake, from about 4 AM and until we arrived at 05:17 AM (Pacific Time), (8:17 AM, Eastern Time). I thought at the time this was because it was the most hazardous stretch of road so
far, a single lane mountain road I had never driven on it and it a pitch black night. I also thought truckers were going way too fast for my comfort level and there were no turn outs. But, my prayers went beyond my immediate needs for our personal safety
I felt gravely burdened to pray for the safety of our nation. I did not know what was to take place over the next few hours about 3,000 miles away but I felt I really needed to pray for the nation. I must say that night was one of the most difficult and
unusual I have had in my prayer life as a Christian since making a commitment to accept what Jesus Christ had done on the cross for me in August of 1972.
We fell into bed after arriving at 5:17AM and slept in ignorance of the events which were transpiring in the City of New York, Washington, D.C. and in the farm country in Pennsylvania. We would only find out the devastating news when we checked our
messages that afternoon. We would spend the rest of our day like everyone else glued to the television hoping and praying for the survivors.
Wednesday, September 12 was Gail’s birthday and that was one of the reasons we had picked this week to take our trip. It was still a tough day emotionally, but we decided to not give into the terrorists and go ahead and celebrate Gail’s birthday. We
didn’t listen to the news until late that night and instead took a long but beautiful drive around the area. This time it was to see the sights. We stopped at an Old Faithful a geyser located near Napa Valley. Gail really enjoyed the geyser. We even went
to the ocean and drove down the coast. We stopped for a late birthday dinner and got back tired but refreshed. We had planned to return home the next Sunday but we decided to extend our vacation just so we could process everything that was going on and
instead we traveled down to San Diego for an additional week of vacation. We traveled most of the length of California that week following the attack and it was so encouraging to see a flag or patriotic signs on almost every overpass. Drivers waved flags
at us and even on the road you had a sense of national unity.
Gail and I have been dedicated to electing morality and values based candidates to public office all across America for the past 9 years and now more than ever we are dedicated to that cause. On November 02, 2001 we received confirmation from the
United States Patents and Trademarks office that our request for a Registered Trademark for the name of our organization Citizens For A Better America® had been approved. God has truly blessed us with incredible, miraculous success in the name
identification of our organization. That blessing has brought about others around the United States of America copying our name and starting organizations in other states other than California. We will now be able to stop them. We both spend massive
amounts of time as volunteers. That is why we call it our ministry to elect morality and values based candidates from the very lowest to the very highest political positions all over America. We ask for your prayers for us as we continue in this
volunteer ministry.
Well, I have to stop now because I did not want to have to add a second ounce stamp to the envelope that this letter is going into.
I would like to leave you with this final thought. Even though Gail and I have experienced the most difficult year from an emotional standpoint for the same reason that you probably have, remember what it says in1 Corinthians 1:9 (page 1148 TCLB) “God
is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ.” Remember this at this Christmas time and celebrate, all year long, the love God showed toward us by sending Jesus His son.
With all Sincerity in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior,
Robert & Gail Colaco
