Citizens For A Better America ® joins the boycott against the Disney™ Company.
Van Nuys, California - Robert Colaco, national chairman of Citizens For A Better America announces today it joins the boycott against the Disney Company.
“We are very disappointed in Disney, and we are joining the Southern Baptist Convention, Presbyterian Church in America, Assemblies of God, Free Will Baptists, American Family Association (AFA) and others,” in boycotting the Walt Disney Company," said
Robert Colaco.
“We have a growing emphasis in America on protecting our children, from cigarettes to pornography yet the ‘Disney that Walt built’, which was a model of American family values, is being changed and used
to advocate things that hurt our children,”
said Colaco.
As AFA reports in their Disney Fact Sheet, “Disney hired Victor Salva, a convicted child molester, to direct its movie Powder. When Salva’s victim, Nathan Winters (now 20), publicized the hiring, some of the police officers who investigated the 1987
molestation were incredulous that Salva was working again as a movie director... (Washington Times October 25, 1995)” Also, “Disney signed Martin Scorsese to a 4 year contract, the director of The Last Temptation of Christ (Daily Variety, 01/30/96).”
Colaco asks, “What kind of movies are they making when they hire known, convicted child molesters and men who defame Jesus? Not the right kind, not films good for kids.”
Again from the AFA. “In June, 1996, the company hosted the 6th annual ‘Gay and Lesbian Day at Walt Disney World.’ In a cartoon, homosexual organizers portrayed Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck as homosexual lovers; and Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck as
Lesbians. Disney has not publicly objected.”
“It is unbelievable that Disney would allow four of it’s most popular characters to be portrayed by anyone as homosexual and lesbians, because it is well known that Disney has sued organizations of any kind that have used their characters without
Disney’s permission,” said Colaco.
As AFA reports again. “In the 1994 Disney movie, The Santa Clause, the number of an actual phone sex line appears in a scene. The movie is aimed at children and families.” (Associated Press, 05/01/96).
Senior Pastor, Jim Hendricks of Tarzana Baptist Chapel a Southern Baptist Convention affiliated Church in Tarzana, California, said in reaction to the Disney Boycott, “Disney has enjoyed the respect and favorable endorsement of Baptists over the
years. Last year the Southern Baptist Convention voiced concern that they saw Disney departing from their honored tradition. Disney in effect told Southern Baptists they did not care what they said. This year Southern Baptists called for a boycott.
Southern Baptists have voiced their concerns for good reasons. Having been ignored, they’re acting responsibly in calling for a boycott.”
Colaco adds, “It is not just that Disney has ‘extended company health benefits to live-in partners of homosexual employees,’ (a policy which is not extended to unmarried heterosexual couples who live together), but that the whole vision of the Disney
company and its affiliates is towards a redefinition of the family and society under the guise of entertainment.”
